A Smarter, More Reliable Solution for Air Handling Systems
In modern HVAC engineering, achieving consistent airflow, energy efficiency, and system reliability is more critical than ever. Traditional large single-fan configurations are giving way to a more intelligent, scalable alternative — the FanGrid system.
But what exactly is a FanGrid, and why is it becoming the preferred solution for many air handling units (AHUs) and ventilation systems?
Let’s break it down.
A FanGrid, also known as a modular fan wall or parallel fan array, is a configuration where multiple smaller fans are installed side-by-side to replace a single large fan in an air handling unit (AHU) or ventilation chamber.
These fans work in parallel, distributing airflow evenly across the outlet and improving both air distribution and redundancy. Each fan in the grid is typically an EC plug fan — energy-efficient, quiet, and easy to control.
If one fan fails, the system continues operating with the remaining fans. This built-in backup prevents system shutdowns, making FanGrid systems ideal for mission-critical HVAC applications such as:
Data centers
Hospitals
Cleanrooms
Laboratories
With multiple fans operating simultaneously, FanGrids produce more uniform airflow across the coil face, improving the performance of heat exchangers and reducing energy waste.
Because smaller fans can be arranged to fit within shorter or tighter air chambers, FanGrids reduce the length of the fan section in AHUs — a major advantage in retrofits or compact equipment designs.
FanGrid configurations use EC motors (electronically commutated), which offer up to 50% energy savings over conventional AC fans.
They also support 0–10V or PWM control signals, enabling stepless speed control and smart automation via BMS systems.
No belts, no pulleys, no lubrication. Most EC plug fans in FanGrids use sealed maintenance-free ball bearings, simplifying service and reducing downtime.
Need more airflow capacity? Simply add more fans to the grid. This modular design makes scaling up easy for AHU manufacturers and HVAC contractors.
FanGrid systems are increasingly adopted in:
️ Commercial HVAC AHUs
Cleanroom ventilation
Data center cooling
Hospital and healthcare HVAC systems
Industrial ventilation projects
Retrofit upgrades for existing fan units
