EC stands for Electronically Commutated. EC motors combine the efficiency of a brushless DC motor with the convenience of AC power supply compatibility.

EC = Brushless DC Motor + Integrated Speed Controller + AC Input Ready
An EC fan contains a permanent magnet DC motor, but it is powered by AC mains and has internal electronics to convert and manage the power supply. This makes EC fans smarter, more controllable, and significantly more efficient than traditional AC fans.
